Gameplay in Axiom Verge is similar to that of Super Metroid, which is clearly one of its inspirations. The game is a 2D action-exploration adventure, taking place. The gameplay gets increasingly more challenging, the music is off the chains something special and hypnotic, the eerie dark techy vibe was extremely satisfying, and the story; while initially hard to follow, sucks you in while you learn about Trace and this new world/reality. On the other hand, there is Axiom Verge. Happ has delivered a love letter to the 8-bit NES classic that all others pale in comparison to. I then beat the game in one sitting and told him it's better than Super Metroid. I got about 9 hours of game play in it, but once I beat normal mode I quickly did it all again on hard mode. Now I'm doing a 40% item grab run. What I mean is, that the replay value is worth it. Story line is amazing and makes you think about what is going to happen.

The amout of items/wepons/ and seceret rooms you can find is AMAZING!!! Please note that all the seceret rooms are RNG!!!! So if one run has 2 seceret rooms, your next run you may find all of them! As others have stated, it pays homage to classic games like Metroid and Castlevainia. However, the use of 'glitches' as a game mechanic was new and fun. What I liked most about the game was the weapons - as it is here that Axiom Verge really shines.

There is NO shortage of interesting weapons to fire and each one feels unique. I know I didn't find them all, but the weapons I used were very cool. To top it all off, I loved Thomas Happ's pixel art. Definitely recommended. The game can be confusing at times but that's why we have Youtube for help. I did read that apparently there is a sequel in the makes for Axiom Verge which is really cool. If you look on the Xbox Store under the highest rated games this game is on that list which is amazing because of how long it has been out for.
