We fell in love with Downwell back in 2015 when it first landed on mobile and PC, and since then the action-platformer has made an appearance on PlayStation too. Now, after creative lead Ojiro 'Moppin' Fumoto spent some time working at Nintendo, it'll come as no surprise to hear that the game is part of the wave of indies that is currently washing over the Switch (with the port handled by Red. Downwell is a curious game about a young person venturing down a well in search of untold treasures with only his Gunboots for protection. Make your way further and further down into the darkness filled with nasty creatures and mysterious secrets to collect the spectacular red gems scattered about the rocks. Step into precariously placed shops and buy some helpful items or level up between levels to battle well-dwelling monsters and uncover hidden caves filled with riches and relics. No two trips down the well are ever the same!

The game originally released in 2015 from publisher, and is currently available to play via PC, iOS, Android, PlayStation 4, and PS Vita.Plus, the Switch version will be available to play in “tate,” or vertical, mode—which, frankly, feels the most natural in a game where the player is constantly descending.“Downwell” was originally created by indie developer Moppin, but the new Switch port is in the works from UK-based Red Phantom Games. Red Phantom developed the PlayStation ports for “Downwell” previously, in 2016.While the “Downwell” announcement was unique to Japan’s presentation, there’s was plenty to be revealed in the North American Nintendo Direct presentation Thursday.
